COLUMBIA, S.C. – Governor Henry McMaster signed a proclamation designating Sept. 13–19, 2026, as Folic Acid Awareness Week in South Carolina, underscoring the vital role of folic acid in reducing serious birth defects. In support of this observance, the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) is highlighting the benefits of taking folic acid and its role in improving outcomes for infants.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) confirmed that a raccoon found near Starfish Drive and River Road in Johns Island, S.C., has tested positive for rabies. No people are known to have been exposed at this time. Two dogs were exposed and will be quarantined as required in the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.
